Are you a Swedish-speaking parent living in the Bay Area with a baby or toddler? Then this group is for you! The Scandinavian School is starting a new play group for Swedish-speaking parents and children in the area. The group will give you and your child the opportunity to interact and have fun in Swedish. The idea is simple - we meet for a couple of hours once a week to relax, play and sing with our children, and socialize with each other. "Fika" is of course provided!

We strive to speak only Swedish at our playgroups.

New Dance and Movement Class at the Scandinavian School

The Scandinavian School is offering a new dance and movement class starting Wednesday February 6. The class is open to children 5 years and older and will be held on Wednesdays at 4pm-5pm for 8 weeks. Tuition for the class is $150 for the eight weeks. We need a minimum of 5 children to get this class started.

In this class children will focus on learning language through music and creative movement activities. We will be listening to different styles of music and move around to it. We will sing old and new songs, learn musical rhymes and practice co-ordination, motor skills and co-operation within music and movement. Through this program the children will reinforce musical concepts. They will experience enjoyment with music as they gain coordination, listening and communication skills. Creative movement helps children learn many concepts such as balance and rhythm and is also an important tool for developing self-esteem and body awareness. The program will be taught in Swedish and all songs sung in Swedish, helping children with their Swedish language development.

Our teacher Ann-Sofi Nordgren holds a Master of Fine Arts in Music education from the music academy in Orebro, Sweden. Ann-Sofi has been teaching music and movement to children for 18 years. She has specialized in music and movement for preschool and school age children and in addition she plays and teaches piano and cello. She has held classes in music therapy for children with special needs and has organized and taught music camps in Sweden for many years.
