At the Scandinavian School we believe that language and culture are very close related and our language classes for children will not only provide the children with a spoken and written Scandinavian language, but also a basic knowledge about the Scandinavian cultures.
Our Menlo Park Program is an "offsite" program offering language classes for Scandinavian speaking children, who live in the Mid-peninsula Area. If you are interested in Swedish language programs South of Palo Alto The Swedish School in Silicon Valley (located in Los Gatos) offers Swedish programs for children of many ages. Cost for children 6 years and older who have at least one parent who is a Swedish citizen: $250 (We receive a stipend from the Swedish National Agency for Education for children 6 - 20 years old, born between 1994 and 2011. ( The youngest children are eligible for the stipend this year if they were born anytime between January 1 - December 31, 2011 ).
Cost for children under 6 years old: $420 (Children under 6 years should be in the Swedish preschool program, but because Kindergarten in the U.S. often starts at the age of 5, the Swedish preschool hours do not work with their Kindergarten schedule as they get out of school later. Therefore these 5-year-olds need to be in the afternoon Swedish School program instead. We will allow children enrolled in Kindergarten to attend the Swedish School program. However, since we do not receive a stipend for these children, they have to pay the preschool fee of $420 until they turn 6 years old. This applies even if they turn 6 in the middle of that semester, since we cannot apply for their stipend until the following semester.
