Swedex test
What is Swedex?
Swedex (Swedish Examinations) is an internationally recognized language test for Swedish as a foreign language. It evaluates your ability to read, write, listen, and speak, and can be taken both in Sweden and at approved test centers around the world.
The first test center in the United States!
Starting in fall 2025, the Scandinavian School and Cultural Center (SSCC) will become the first official Swedex test center in the United States. This gives learners in California, and in the US, the opportunity to certify their Swedish skills locally, without the need to travel abroad.
How the test works?
The test takes place at the Scandinavian School in San Francisco. Students are expected to come 15 minutes prior to the test start, and the duration of the test day is 6 hours.
The test consists of four main sections. At the A2-B1 test, there is also a part that also assesses grammar and vocabulary, brining it to five parts.
Reading comprehension – Tests the ability to understand written Swedish texts (articles, ads, instructions, etc.).
Listening comprehension – Measures understanding of spoken Swedish, including conversations, announcements, and short lectures.
Writing – Evaluates the ability to write in Swedish using correct grammar, vocabulary, and structure in response to prompts.
Speaking – Assesses spoken Swedish through an oral test focused on communication, fluency, and pronunciation.
The supervision of the test and the correction of the test is done locally in San Francisco and/or by the Swedex Folkuniversitetet in Göteborg.
The test result is communicated to the test taker 3 weeks after the test, and a written certificate is send to the test takers mail address.
Test Levels and Framework
Swedex is aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and is offered at four levels:
A2 – Basic knowledge
B1 – Independent user (basic fluency)
B2 – Upper intermediate
C1 – Advanced proficiency
How do I get to SSCC?
