At SSCC we are setting down our roots and investing in our community for generations to come. The contributions from early supporters of the Together Campaign has allowed us to undertake an extensive campus improvement project. In May 2022 we opened the doors to our expanded campus, that consists of two adjacent properties.

511 Laguna Honda - The NEW Cultural Center Building

The renovations of the new Cultural Center building, 511 Laguna Honda Boulevard, were completed in May 2022. This included a complete transformation of an empty garage space into two welcoming multipurpose classrooms that can be joined together to create one space for hosting larger classes, events, workshops and community gatherings. One of the classrooms also allows for more space for our preschool, as it is equipped as a Kitchen and Science Lab. In addition, the upstairs the living quarters were updated to offer subsidized teachers housing for SSCC teachers.

20 Woodside - The Preschool Building

Our home for 18 years, the preschool building at 20 Woodside Avenue, has also seen modernizations to improve the classroom experience for students and teachers. We’ve invested in the building infrastructure with better lighting and HVAC solutions. As well as improved the learning environment for our students by building two distinct and separate classrooms in what used to be one combined space. In addition a new and inviting children’s library has been created.

Outdoor environment

We have also revitalized our outdoor spaces to better align with our outdoor pedagogies and to offer more space for creativity, exploration and fun. Our unified and expanded campus now offers an outdoor amphitheater for community gatherings and larger outdoor spaces with upgraded play spaces, a new school garden and a chicken coop with two precious chicken community members.

Remaining goals

To complete our campus transformation we still have some areas in need of renovations

Preschool Kitchen: used daily to offer sustainable, plant-based lunch service for our preschoolers. This kitchen is 70 years old and in need of a complete remodel to meet the standards of a kitchen used to feed 60 people daily.
